Miguel started in marine sciences in 2012 as a technician at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (Instituto Español de Oceanografía). Currently, BSc in Marine Sciences and MSc in Oceanography he is developing his PhD within the project ‘Innovative Solutions for Plastic-free European Rivers’ (INSPIRE). His main research interest is focused on the study of the impact of marine litter on aquatic ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them, carrying out several studies on microplastic pollution in subsurface waters and key species in the Gulf of Cádiz. He is now working on a large-scale database to assess the environmental status of aquatic systems at the global scale.
